Submission Guidelines

General Info

Please send all submissions (either .doc, .docx, .pdf for writing, .jpeg or .png for art) to feralfelinemagazine@gmail.comIn the subject line, please state what category you are submitting to. For example, if you are submitting poetry, the subject line of your email should be "Poetry Submission(s) - Issue 1".

Feral Feline accepts poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and visual art of any medium.

Our magazine is published quarterly, meaning we put out issues four times a year— one for every season. Our issues are typically themed, and the theme will be noted below in the theme section of this page.

We read and organize submissions as they come in. Please give us up to a few weeks to a month to get back to you! Once you've submitted, we will send a confirmation email ASAP that confirms we have received your work.

Theme

Submissions are currently open for our very first double issue! Our submissions are open from April 14th - May 11thThis release will include both Issue 3: Whimsical Winter and Issue 4: Sprouting Spring. If you've already submitted something during the original intended submission period for Issue 3, no worries! We will still consider them for this double issue and you are more than welcome to continue sending in things for the winter theme.

The theme of Issue 4 is Sprouting Spring. As always, our themes can be interpreted in any way you see fit. To us, the idea of "sprouting spring" relates to new beginnings and a rebirth of any kind. The flowers are starting to bloom, branches are becoming full again, the weather is getting warmer, and the sun is out and shining! We are looking for work that speaks to these concepts and associations with springtime.

If you are planning on revisiting the winter, here is a reminder on what are looking for: to us winter is whimsical in more ways than one. It is carefree, self-care, enjoying hot cocoa on a snowy day, and layering clothes to prepare for the cold. It is also beautiful. Winter is known as a season that is bare, barren, and cold but there is so much magic in it as well.

Send us work that touches on every connotation of winter or spring you have and what it means to you. Your work does not need to exactly follow these descriptions; this is just the general idea of our themes. Whether you love or hate the snow and cold or enjoy soaking up the sun, we want to know all of the deep down thoughts you have about these times of the year through your poetry, fiction, and visual art! We are so excited to see all of your lovely pieces!

If you'd like to submit something that is not in-line with the theme, we may consider it for the blog portion of our website. If you choose to do this, please note this in the subject line of your email. For example, if you are submitting poetry that doesn't necessarily resonate with the theme, your subject line should be: "Poetry Submission(s) - Blog". Please note that it may take us a little bit longer to get back to you if you are submitting for the blog, as we prioritize submissions for our issues that come in during our submission periods.

Submitting

Please email us up to 4 pieces of previously unpublished, original work. You may send any combination of art and writing, as long as it is only 4 pieces. For example, if you want to send both art and writing, you may send us two pieces of writing, two pieces of art, or three pieces of writing and one piece of art, and so on.

  • Poetry

    • Please put your 1-4 poems in one single document, with each new poem starting a separate page. Please put the title in either "quotation marks", italics, OR bold. Please make sure your poems are formatted exactly how you want them to appear on the page.

  • Fiction & Non-Fiction

    • Please double space your submissions. Maximum word count is 2,000 words (8 pages double spaced). If submitting more than one fiction or CNF piece, please have each piece in separate documents.

  • Visual Art

    • Visual art of any medium (photography, paintings, sculpture, collage, etc.) is acceptable. Work should be at least 300dpi. Please attach each individual file (.jpeg or .png, please no PDFs for art) of your art to your email, with the file names as the titles of each piece. If a piece does not have a title, "Untitled" is fine, but we really encourage you to have titles (it makes organizing submissions a lot easier for us)

We look forward to reviewing your work! Happy submitting!
